3-week dairy course: Learn from the Dutch

Wageningen University in the Netherlands is organising a 3 week course, focused on designing and implementing dairy development strategies in emerging economies.

Dairy sectors all over the world are challenged by expanding populations and economic growth. Growing demand for dairy products has led to a significant increase in public and private involvement and to new opportunities for a range of stakeholders. This has been the incentive for Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) in the Netherlands to organise a course that delves deeper in finding strategies for dairy development in emerging economies.

Dairy sector development

Are you directly involved in dairy sector development and do you want to improve your own capacities? This course aims to offer a systems perspective on dairy sector development, along with skills to design innovative and sustainable options. It looks at how to balance sustainable production practices and market demands within a changing policy environment. Moving beyond the technical realm, you will learn how to involve multiple stakeholders for inclusion of social, environmental, economic and political aspects.

Mixed approach

The course will use a mix of lectures, discussions, group work and field trips to offer background, theoretical foundations, as well as practical approaches for production and market development. The dairy sector of both the EU and the global south economies will be considered in the lectures. Taking the participants’ own situation as a starting point, we will analyse the current condition, explore options that are already available for further development and design new dairy systems in a responsible manner.

The course takes place between May 13 – 31, 2019 in the Netherlands. More information can be found here.
