As can be seen in supermarkets around the globe, Australian supermarkets are also experiencing panic buying by shoppers as a result of the coronavirus crisis. This has led to the supermarket chain putting cap on milk buying.

Australian supermarket chain, Coles, is limiting customer buying of certain products. The supermarket chain announced yesterday: Coles supermarkets & Coles Express will limit the sale of all Coles Brand & branded chilled milk to two per customer. This includes all sizes of white dairy milk, plant-based non-dairy & goats milk sold chilled in our dairy fridges.

Availability during Covid-19

The chain wants to improve availability for customers during the Covid-19 crisis. In addition to milk, shoppers may now only purchase two packs per customer of the following products: eggs, chilled pasta, frozen vegetables and frozen desserts.

The limit on milk buying comes 24 hours after the Australian supermarket said it added eggs, chilled pasta, frozen vegetables and frozen dessert to the growing list of food and other items shoppers were limited in buying.

According to Coles’ chief executive, Steven Cain, staff are working “as hard as possible” to stock supermarket shelves, however more action was needed.

Another major Australian chain, Woolworths, has also announced 2-pack limit on some products. It said, “We’ve made this change to help our suppliers and teams make as many products available to you as possible. So please respect these limits and only buy what you need to help as many Australians as possible access the products they need.”
