Lely sees solid growth in 2020
Despite Covid-19, 2020 was another strong year for Lely with record-breaking sales of € 615 million (€ 606 million in 2019). This growth in turnover is a result of the continuously increasing worldwide adoption of dairy automation. Next to the established markets in Europe and North America, additional growth came from Asia and Latin America. The main driver behind this strong development was the success of the robotic products, especially the Lely Astronaut A5 milking robot. “2020 has been an unusual and dynamic year. We have proven to be resilient, flexible and creative while facing the challenges of the pandemic," said Andre van Troost, CEO Lely.
Danone launches first baby formula in tablet format
Dairy company Danone has launched the first ever formula milk to be sold in a pre-measured tab format aimed firstly for the UK market followed by other European markets. The company is producing the new tab format at its formula milk production facility in Wexford, Ireland, through a manufacturing partnership with Japanese food company Meiji. This new tab format eases that pressure as they dissolve easily, with one tab equal to one standard scoop of powdered formula. The new pre-measured tab format will be made available in packs of 24 sachets, with each sachet containing 5 tabs. The new format will be available exclusively via the UK’s leading health and beauty retailer Boots under the Aptamil brand.
Gustavo Hildenbrand, Danone general manager UK and Ireland, specialised nutrition, says, “We hope bringing to market formula milk in a pre-measured tab format will offer added convenience and support for formula feeding parents, especially in the ‘new normal’."
Kerry partners with World Food Programme

The goal of Project Amata is to make safe and sustainable milk more accessible to school children and the community. The project centres around improving food security and nutrition by strengthening the milk value chain and engaging schools and local communities to raise awareness about the important role milk has in curbing malnutrition.
Biomin launches new mycotoxin solution
Biomin has launched its newest mycotoxin risk management solution, Mycofix Plus 5.Z with ZENzyme, in select markets across the Asia Pacific region. Mycofix Plus 5.Z with ZENzyme is an all-in-one feed additive providing mycotoxin risk management for breeding animals and their offspring. ZENzyme is the first and only purified enzyme that degrades zearalenone (ZEN) fast, specifically and irreversibly into non-toxic and non-estrogenic metabolites.
In other news, Biomin announced the EU authorisation of FUMzyme, the only commercially available mycotoxin-deactivating enzyme and component of Mycofix, for application in fermenting feed including silages. FUMzyme, a fumonisin esterase, is a purified enzyme that detoxifies fumonisins –a category of mycotoxins produced by Fusarium fungi— into non-toxic metabolites.
Rapid test to identify A2 milk-producing cows
Swiss foodtech company SwissDeCode is launching the DNAFoil A2 Cow Test, a rapid test kit that allows dairy farms and companies to test their cows independently and on the spot in order to detect the presence of the A1 beta-casein allele and identify A2 milk-producing cows.
The new test comes to answer the market’s demands for A2 milk testing and joins the DNAFoil A2 Cow Milk Test launched last year. Dairy farmers and herd managers can now quickly segregate their cows according to the type of milk they produce.
Dairymaster’s new system
Dairymaster's new ‘DraftNow’ system is the company’s latest product, which is a standalone selection system. It includes a new software program and a mobile app that offers additional functionality. It is a system that allows farmers to easily select their cows remotely if necessary. It can be installed on farms with or without the Dairymaster automatic identification system and is suitable for parlours from other brands. The app also offers many other functions, such as adding or editing cow data, creating a new cow profile, editing tag numbers, assigning cows to groups, etc. All information is securely stored and connected to the cloud, so that farmers can be sure that the cow data will not be lost.
